โดยข้อมูลล่าสุดของปี 2016
เผยให้เห็นว่าบริเวณอาร์กติกมีพื้นที่น้ำแข็งประมาณ 5,607,000 ตารางไมล์
ซึ่งน้อยกว่าปี 2015 กว่า 5,000 ตารางไมล์ ทางด้าน Mark Serreze
